A Silver Lining

Recently someone reminded me to find a silver lining to all of the time I've had to spend in my recliner. Eating, sleeping, reading, working, family time... all from this silly chair!
Well, finding a silver lining is just what I've done!
I have had time to organize this year's subjects and plan a few weeks worth of lessons, go through piles of paperwork and magazines that I have been putting off for months, make all new labels for our work boxes and the supply boxes in my craft room, as well as dig out all of the important papers I wanted to file in my Mom's Household Binder. Aside from the closets that are in serious need of some attention I feel like a new woman, or at least a better organized woman! I have always said that my predilection to organization was more of a sickness than a gift but in recent months (or years) I have let MY life take a backseat to everyone else.I may have mentioned that I have a problem with saying "No", but what I don't think I've mentioned is that I tend to not just take on too much, but I also allow it to take OVER! If I agree to do something I takes control until I feel like I've accomplished it.
I can't say I'm grateful to have a broken arm right now, but I can say that I'm grateful that it's causing me to put the needs of my own life back where they belong, in the drivers seat!

New Year New Me... well sort of!

Wow, last year was a BANNER year for me! I think I MIGHT have averaged one blog post every three months! Not my most shining effort!  I tend to stew on blogging ideas wanting the post to be PERFECT and then never get around to writing them before they become irrelevant and out dated.  Well this year I hope to change that! My goal this year is to write something at least once a week.
Think I can do it?
Yeah me neither, but I'm gonna try! LOL

Of course, I wouldn't be up to speed in the blogging world if I didn't post about new year organization!  First up on the "Let's Get Organized Agenda" is a new addition to my refrigerator door. As you read through my next few blogs (yes I actually have a PLAN for the first few weeks!) you'll see that I LOVE to copy great ideas. But I am definitely a recreate the wheel kinda gal! I like to take the original idea, research how other people are doing it and them shape it to fit me. Well that's just what I did with this handy little tool! A while back I saw a blog about grocery lists. This super creative lady, who's blog I cannot remember for the life of me, had created an itemized grocery list that contained everything her family generally bought at the grocery store. Then when they ran out of something all they had to do was check it off on the list. She always had a running list of what they needed and then just grabbed it on her way out the door.

Well this was great for us except that by the time I was done creating my list is had to be printed on LEGAL PAPER! I mean really... we're a family of three! That HUGE grocery list was a little ridiculous. Not to mention that it would take me DAYS to get around to printing out a new list when it was time.

Enter my fabulous smashing together of ideas!! I found a terrific way to make homemade notepads from a fellow blogger, Skip to my Lou. (This time I remembered to grab a link so I could give credit where credit is due.)
I then began the process of shrinking my grocery list down to a manageable size that was still legible and Viola! I now have this handy little grocery list notepad that hangs on my fridge but now it fits nicely in my purse!

P.S. I also learned that there is no better motivation to spruce up an area in the your home than to put pictures of it on your blog!

Mom's Household Journal

Ok so I started something new this month...
For those of you who know me well, you know I have a LOVE of office supplies. Ok, so it's really a sickness, a disease, an addiction!!
Trying to get the most positive benefits from this disorder I am plagued with, I started a new project. This journal (which is actually a 3-ring binder) houses anything and everything that is my life. I have an area for my calendar/to-do lists, a monthly menu calendar with categorized grocery list, my homeschool curr. and some things we can study when we're on the go, and my current bible study/Life Group lesson plans/Prayer List. It has really come in handy as I've had everything I need at my finger tips no matter where I am.
Aside from the organizational genius that is my Mom's Household Journal, it also appeals to my desire to create and use fun pics/clipart, as well as my longing to carry around a 3-ringer binder like did in school. Ok, so maybe that's more of a longing to be young and in school again, OR if we want to get REALLY deep, maybe it appeals to a need to always be learning...
Yeah, I think I'll go with that!! Makes me sound more stable as a grown-up, right?
Regardless of the quirks behind it, I am really feeling on top of my game right now!! Which is good since we will begin homeschooling next week. At least I have it all together for now... Ha!
No seriously, I am really excited about next week! I have thrown myself into this like nothing I have ever done! Something about knowing that I will be bringing education, the study of God's word and the importance of being a godly man to my 8 year old is empowering! I feel for once that I am making a difference in the world! I am SO grateful for that feeling of purpose!
